The End of an Era - Windows 7

Now is the time to begin switching your old Windows 7 computer to Windows 10. Officially, Microsoft will stop supporting 7 on January 14, 2020. This means they will no longer be providing updates for 7. This does not mean your 7 computer will stop working. It will continue to run but no more updates will be provided from Microsoft. This actually sounds more scary than it really is. If you’re using your 7 system to run older games or flight simulator software or running manufacturing equipment where you’re not really online very much, it’s not that critical. Yes, you should keep your antivirus & anti malware software up to date and continue running scans but your likely hood of being infected is less than if you’re using your 7 system to constantly browse the web or access your online banking. That being said, for your main system that’s on the Internet you should stay as current as possible with software updates, which in this case means upgrading to Windows 10. But for systems that are isolated away from the Internet, you should be ok. Eventually, as was the case with Windows 98 & Vista, companies will stop providing cleanup and antivirus software for Windows 7 and you will be forced to upgrade. If you have questions, please call us. We have a great process to smoothly upgrade you to Windows 10 while not losing any of your data. And in most cases, we can also reinstall your core programs on Windows 10. Of course, ever situation is different so please call us if you’re interested in this. In the meantime, checkout the following official Microsoft’s link on the subject matter.
